Places to Off-Road in Arizona | Off-Road Jeeps

One of the most appealing aspects of purchasing your new or used Jeep or RAM vehicle is taking it to some off-road trails. South Phoenix drivers upgrade their vehicle, pack up their tent, gasoline, and water, and get ready for some exploring.
But when it comes time to get ready for your next adventure, where are the best Arizona off-road trails? Well, Bill Luke Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram highlights some of our personal favorites, here, to give Glendale drivers like you a better idea of where to go when you are ready for some adventure.
Places to Off-Road in Arizona: Near Phoenix
If you are looking for a short trip from Phoenix for your off-road Jeep, there are a number of places you can go with easy, medium, and difficult options. Check out a few options for a quick trip out of the city:
Backway to Crown King
Several miles out from Bill Luke Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Phoenix is Backway to Crown King. This trail, while moderate, takes 4 to 5 hours and may be a bit difficult for a stock vehicle. The trail is systematically graded upwards and is 37 miles of rocks and deep ruts. This is one of the more popular trails near Glendale due to the numerous wildlife and various mines.
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
This trail is an easy trail, and a bit further from Bill Luke Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, being a 2-hour drive. However, North Mountain drivers can enjoy 51 miles of driving with views of desert flora and fauna.
Apache Trail
If you are looking for a moderate drive with a cool mine and cottonwood trees at the end, the Apache Trail is a good spot. Despite its proximity to Bill Luke Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, drivers will find a longer drive on the Apache Trail. The 40-mile trail has blind curves and tight switchbacks near cliff edges requiring attentiveness on the roads.
Places to Off-Road in Arizona: Hardcore Enthusiast
Desoto Mine
Any hardcore enthusiast in need of a thrill can find it at the Desoto Mine Trail. This isn’t for the faint of heart with narrow creek beds, constantly changing boulder fields, and a series of ridges on a narrow, winding trail. There are also washed-out sections and tippy situations, especially for high-centered vehicles.
Steep descents and climbs keep the heart rate pumping for those looking for a challenge. With just 12 miles of treacherous terrain, you can expect this trip to take 4 to 5 hours. Plus, it’s near Prescott so keep that in mind for planning if you’re near the South Phoenix area.
Sunflower Mine/National Mine
With a name like Sunflower, drivers may expect a sweet little drive. However, this trail may be a bit deceiving. Starting relatively simple, once you pass Sunflower Mine it gets increasingly challenging, and can take all day.
Places to Off-Road in Arizona: The Eco-Friendly Camper
Bulldog Canyon
This trail is highly-sensitive and requires a permit for off-roading. The benefit of this option is its proximity to the Laveen area. The trail passes through the scenic Sonoran Desert with views of Goldfield and Superstition Mountains. Suitable for aggressive stock SUVs with high ground clearance. It’s a shorter trip, requiring just 2 to 3 hours for the 8 miles of trail.
Castle Dome Mountains
Part of Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, the Castle Dome Mountains trail provides drivers with the opportunity to see animals like a desert bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyote, cottontail, bobcat, fox, and golden eagle. Good articulation and ground clearance will get you through this trail.
