How To Remove the Doors on a Jeep

The first step in learning how to take the doors off a Jeep is to fold down the side mirrors and roll down the windows to protect the glass. Then, follow these steps to take apart your Jeep:

  • Disconnect the power cables by removing the footwell under the dash or by the b-pillar. This should pop off by removing the attached clip.
  • Remove the door straps by gently lifting them off the hooks.
  • Remove the bolt from the door hinges. Then, gently slide the door off and away.
  • Repeat those instructions for the remaining doors.
  • Disable the door alarm by detaching the negative lead from the battery and putting it aside from the terminal. Then, remove the fuse box cover and look at the diagram to examine the fuses on the underside. Find the Door Jam Defeat fuse and remove it with fuse clips or needle-nosed pliers. Reconnect the negative lead to the battery, and you’re set for your next Phoenix journey.

Why Would I Take the Doors off my Wrangler?

You can remove your Jeep Wrangler doors for a number of reasons. If you’re traveling off the beaten path, removing your doors will allow you to get closer to your surroundings. The removable panels of your Jeep can help you take in the experience of the elements as you travel to your destination.

Another great reason to remove your Jeep doors is for fuel consumption. Removing the doors of your Jeep makes it lighter, helping to improve your fuel economy and overall trail experience.
