How to Find EV Charging Stations in Phoenix

The most reliable charging options in Glendale and Laveen are your home charging stations. But that doesn’t mean you can’t give your battery a boost when you’re on the road. More and more auto dealerships, stores, universities, apartment complexes, and businesses are installing public charging stations. Not only that, at the end of 2022 the Arizona Department of Transportation announced that they’ll be upgrading and increasing the number of EV charging stations along the state’s five interstates to make longer trips easier. But if you’re running errands in Phoenix and need to top off your battery, you can find EV charging stations maps of the city through apps like ChargeHub, which estimates there are 431 level 2 and level 3 public chargers in Phoenix. Twenty-nine percent of those chargers are free to use. The other EV charging station costs vary by the service provider. Some of the most popular EV charging stations in Phoenix are located at:

  • Paradise Village Gateway in front of Fastmed Urgent Care
  • Ahwatukee Foothills Towne Center across from AMC Theatres
  • Kohl’s stores
  • Chase Field
  • American Lung Association
  • Paradise Valley Marketplace in front of Whole Foods

How to Choose an EV Charging Station

Most EV drivers have a preferred charging company. The ones serving the Phoenix area include ChargePoint and Blink. The EV charging station cost for ChargePoint is usually $4-5/hour. Blink offers customer memberships that provide a 20 percent discount on public charging. Their network is mostly comprised of Level 2 charging stations, which is what you’ll find at 90 percent of Phoenix charging stations. Level 2 charging stations can give you around 32 miles of driving power per hour of charging time.

Public Electric Charging Tips

As the number of EV charging stations increases, charging on the go will become easier. In the meantime here are some tips to make it easier to navigate the EV charging networks:

  • Keep an EV charging station map handy. ChargeHub offers an extensive map.
  • Choose a couple of charging stations. In case you arrive at a charging station and all the chargers are in use or out of order, you’ll want a nearby backup.
  • Don’t let your battery charge drop below 20 percent. You’ll get more charge, faster, when your battery is between 20-80 percent charged.
  • Allot for charging times. Level 2 charging isn’t nearly as fast as Level 3 charging, so schedule accordingly.
